NSG UK celebrates IRATA rope access accreditation
NSG UK is celebrating being awarded IRATA accreditation to carry out rope access work
The IRATA (Industrial Rope Access Trade Association) accreditation is the industry's quality standard and will add a new dimension to NSG UK's range of access solutions and industrial services.
The company has been working towards the accreditation for 12 months.
Rope Access Manager Peter Harrison said in that time the firm has been working on projects across the offshore, oil and gas, petrochemicals and power generation sectors.
He said: "Gaining IRATA accreditation has been a key part of our plans for growth as many high-profile clients will ask to see this before awarding a contract. We are now fully IRATA accredited to use rope access for working at height, and our time-served experienced rope-access technicians are able to carry out NSG's full range of industrial services such as painting, blasting, insulation and maintenance work.
"We are also able to offer Non Destructive Testing (NDT) services, testing the integrity and thickness of steelwork and pipelines, using methods such as Ultrasound, Magnetic Particle Inspection and Radiography. We believe it's important to be able to offer our clients the assurance of working with a well-established, dedicated NDT provider and we achieve this through our close association with respected industry leader James Fisher Inspection and Measurement Services Ltd.
"The advantage of using rope access methods over scaffold mainly lies in the efficiency with which workers can safely get to and from difficult locations in order to carry out their work, often with minimal impact on other operations in the nearby area. It is also very cost effective which is vital for clients in the current climate.
"Over the past 12 months we have been audited and also assessed on our practical work which has been proved to be of the highest standards.
NSG UK's 15-strong rope access team is currently working on projects including painting work at the Connah's Quay Power Station and ongoing maintenance work at INEOS Chlor's Runcorn site, Tata Chemicals in Northwich and for oil and gas giant Centrica in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
Peter, who has worked in rope access for 15 years and was formerly a mountain guide in Wales, said: "This really is a specialist area - especially with the health and safety implications - and our team of rope-access technicians harnesses a diversity of trades and skills, not least a strong head for heights!
"This marks a new approach by NSG to providing alternative access solutions and it is fantastic for the business. In the past we have contracted out parts of the rope access work, but now everything is in house, meaning clients get a much more efficient, cost effective and streamlined process. It means we can also keep control of the quality and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
"What sets apart NSG UK from our competitors is the ability to bring all the industrial services facets of a project under one umbrella - from small scale maintenance work to multi-million pound new build projects, we can provide scaffolding and rope access, painting and blasting, industrial cleaning, insulation and cladding and more.
"NSG UK also has an exemplary health and safety record which we are very proud of - the safety of our staff and those who work with us is paramount, demonstrated by the award of our seventh consecutive RoSPA Gold Award earlier this year."
NSG UK Ltd Managing Director Mike Carr added "This IRATA accreditation is something that we are especially proud of, but more importantly demonstrates that we have listened to our clients' requirements and have responded by tailoring our services to suit by adding yet another discipline. We have set up each one of our multi discipline services in an equally professional manner, with dedicated, knowledgeable staff who have a passion for what they do and a strong emphasis on Health and Safety".
